Patrick Harney of Mishcon de Reya is a cross-border tax specialist with experience of working in Dublin, London and New York. With clients including HNWs, family offices and hedge funds in all three jurisdictions, the former racehorse owner has built a specialist practice advising on US-UK and UK-Irish tax, trust and estate planning and UK resident non-domiciled tax planning.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given his transatlantic work, Harney lists his two-year secondment at a New York law firm, between 2005 and 2007, as one of two pivotal moments in his career. ‘It gave me a deep understanding of US tax practice and culture,’ he says. The second big development was joining ‘the private wealth powerhouse that is Mishcon de Reya’.
