James Liffen, Mishcon de Reya’s head of residential property, has been described by one client as ‘very calm under fire and attentive, as well as very professional and always available’. 

Since joining the firm in 2008, Liffen’s work has expanded from a focus on prime central London to include large landed estates across the UK and internationally. His expertise lies in complex deals, including those involving shared ownership, auction sales, portfolio purchases, and tenancy and planning issues. 

Describing his workload as ‘very diverse’, Liffen notes that he acts on everything from leases worth tens of millions in Chelsea to student portfolios in Stoke. He tells Spear’s of one recent deal that included the purchase of an £83 million estate and two neighbouring £30 million properties, acquired to create one vast residence for an international billionaire.
