‘This is my 30th year of practising family law, and the landscape has changed completely,’ says Joanne Edwards, a partner and head of the family practice at Forsters. ‘Increasingly, the HNW space is focused on mediation and alternatives to court.’
UHNW and high-profile clients come to Edwards for her expertise in the issues that arise from divorce or separation, including child arrangements and complex financial matters, which often involve international elements. She is also called upon to draw up nuptial agreements for the world’s most influential individuals.
Edwards, who sits on the board of Resolution, advocates a forward-thinking approach to divorce and separation. ‘In higher-value cases, one of the main benefits [of NCDR] is being able to tailor the outcome to the individual family circumstances,’ she explains.
