Waqar Shah is a partner in the dispute resolution team at Kingsley Napley, where he focuses on tax-related disputes and investigations.

Shah typically acts for HNW and UHNW individuals who have caught the eye of HMRC and are being investigated. Not only is HMRC targeting the very wealthy but, increasingly, the mass affluent, as well as modern entrepreneurs such as YouTubers and influencers who share details of their lives online.

Shah’s approach is to resolve disputes efficiently, ideally without litigation. ‘One of the things we really focus on is early resolution,’ he tells Spear's, ‘even in situations where it seems as though both parties are entrenched in their views,’ he says. In other words, not arguing for the sake of arguing.
