Kingsley Napley’s Katie Newbury has ‘always focused on immigration’, she tells Spear’s. Starting at the firm as a solicitor in 2012, she is now a partner in its private client immigration team, instructing on matters relating to complex family migration and international protection, and assisting high-net-worth individuals on their UK immigration journeys. 

With a client base that is predominantly from the United States, Hong Kong and the Middle East, she focuses on finding immigration solutions for investors, entrepreneurs and individuals who either have family members in the UK or who are looking to start a business in the UK. 

Her biggest piece of advice to HNWs is to ‘sort out all of your affairs in advance’. She pointed to tax as an example and urged people to ensure that they have planned out their tax affairs prior to moving to the UK. This has become less of an issue over recent years, she notes. ‘Clients are more alive to tax than they used to be.’
