Abby Buckland is one of the leading lights in Kinglsey Napley’s thriving family department.
Key specialisms include complex financial matters and pre- and postnuptial work with international elements, including jurisdiction races, trust assets and cross-border disputes.
Buckland has been involved in the landmark Michael v Michael case, in which a ‘sham trust’ was discovered during divorce proceedings. An incredibly rare judgment, the judge praised counsel for its forensic approach to documentation in order to prove the trust was a sham. On the judgment, she told Spear’s: ‘I don’t think this is going to be something that’s going to happen every year in family law, but I think what is important is it shows that the Family Court will give the time and energy into looking into these scenarios properly.’
Buckland also acts in some private children law matters. No matter the case, she emphasises clarity when working with clients. ‘I don’t believe in promising the client the earth if that isn’t want you feel you can deliver. It’s incredibly important to be upfront in your advice with the client from the outset.’
