An immigration lawyer with three decades of experience, Keystone Law partner Sharmila Mehta advises a range of international private clients and corporations on strategic immigration and residency planning.
She tells Spear’s that while some UHNWs who lived in the UK as non-doms have since left for more tax-friendly jurisdictions, demand for UK immigration advice from the United States and the Middle East has actually grown.
‘What’s happened – and what always happens – is the world has a way of correcting itself or balancing out.’
The rule of law in the UK and high levels of security means it has an enduring appeal, she explains. ‘The UK is still considered European, and I think financial services is one of the biggest strengths of the UK and particularly of London. So that’s always going to be a major attraction.’
