Spear’s Review
Roopa Ahluwalia, a partner in Keystone Law’s family practice, is an advocate for non-court dispute resolution. ‘With private FDRs, you are guaranteed a hearing, you get an expert judge, and I think sometimes mediation can help get rid of the animosity and make it a lot easier if there are child issues down the line,’ she explains.
With more than 20 years’ experience working with UHNW clients, Ahluwalia has particular expertise in separation and divorce, complex children issues and pre- and postnuptial agreements where trusts are involved.
‘A specialist interest of mine is acting for third parties that become embroiled in financial negotiations or court proceedings for trust beneficiaries,’ she says. In these cases Ahluwalia works with accountants and solicitors across jurisdictions to value trusts and assess how they should be handled in case of a divorce.
Specific career highlights include acting for a husband in a complicated £100 million divorce where the assets were principally held in land in individual names as opposed to a company.
