Payne Hicks Beach partner Harriet Errington advises across the field of family law, including divorce and the financial consequences of relationship breakdown, pre- and postnuptial agreements and children issues. Her HNW clients range from high-profile business people and entrepreneurs to vulnerable women seeking divorce from a richer spouse. She frequently helps clients obtain positive out-of-court settlements, including on complex financial issues.

Errington’s cases usually involve an international dimension, which has resulted in a unique niche advising clients from the Middle East and Pakistan. ‘I’ve got some really good contacts in Pakistan, and apparently I’m known in Karachi as being the person to come to in England,’ she says. Notable cases with Pakistani clients include Iqbal v Iqbal [2017] and TI v LI [2024]. 

She tells Spear’s that her approach to building a diverse client list comes down to one key quality: ‘You’ve got to have empathy,’ she says. ‘I think that makes a difference between a decent family lawyer who just plods along and does the work, and someone who really gets it, who understands their clients and what they want.’
