Spear’s Review

With more than 20 years of experience as a divorce practitioner working with HNWs and UHNWs, Charlotte Skea-Strachan has developed a broad-ranging family law practice at Payne Hicks Beach, which includes crafting prenuptial agreements and reviewing complex asset bases and structures. She seeks to find long-lasting solutions to help de-coupling spouses both financially and emotionally.

Reflecting on the global nature of her clients’ lives, Skea-Strachan explains: ‘People aren’t always staying in the same country they were born in – they’re meeting people across the world and marrying them. When it comes to marital breakdown, you then end up dealing with [the laws of] two countries.’

The Oxford graduate has worked on reported cases in the Court of Appeal, High Court and the Supreme Court – including the landmark Owens case, which later spurred the creation of no-fault divorce. ‘It was nice to work on a case that made a wider difference, beyond making a difference for clients,’ she says.
