As a partner in Payne Hicks Beach’s litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution team, Clementine Dowley advises clients on significant contentious issues in relation to their trusts or high-value estates.

With a background in corporate law, Dowley is well-equipped to handle complex and multi-jurisdictional dispute cases through active litigation or non-court alternatives such as mediation. ‘A lot of trustees and beneficiaries prefer arbitration partly because of the privacy it can provide,’ she tells Spear’s.

She has a particular specialism in claims made under the Inheritance Act 1975 and has recently seen more cases featuring historic gender bias in family business planning. ‘Many of my clients are women who feel that they’ve been shut out of affairs and haven’t been kept up to date with what is going on,’ she notes.
