Joseph Lappin is instructed by employees and employers to advise on all employment and HR issues. He has been head of employment at Stewarts since 2019, and finds the dual role of manager and active lawyer an invigorating challenge. ‘Managing the department at the same time as advising clients certainly keeps me on my toes,’ he said.

The busy partner speaks of the firm’s shared willingness to invest time and effort in fully appreciating clients’ needs. ‘We work with clients to achieve both legal and non-legal objectives, so understanding what they want to achieve is paramount.’

Lappin regularly advises clients on grievance and disciplinary investigations, unfair dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing, breaches of post-termination covenants and incentive schemes.

Joe advises senior executives and LLP members on a broad range of employment issues, often complex in nature.

His work covers HR investigations, unfair dismissal, discrimination complaints, whistleblowing, contract disputes, negotiation of exit terms and post-dismissal issues.

Joe has particular expertise in Employment Tribunal litigation.

Joe also advises directors on their duties, appointments and exits. 

As part of the Sports Disputes practice, Joe acts for sportspersons in relation to disputes with clubs and sporting bodies. 

Joe also advises employers. Acting for individuals and organisations allows Joe to develop a deep understanding of the issues affecting both sides of a dispute.
