Oxford graduate Marc Jones joined Stewarts in 2009. Since becoming a partner in 2013, he has developed a varied client base which includes financial institutions, states and state entities, companies and HNW private clients. Jones specialises in a range of matters involving financial and banking disputes, including fraud, litigation, professional negligence, asset tracing and contentious insolvency. 

Jones has made considerable industry strides in his work in cryptocurrency disputes. He recently acted in the Robertson v Persons Unknown case, where Bitcoin was treated as legal property by the High Court. The claimant in the case recovered £1 million of Bitcoin. 

Jones also contributed to a well-received report titled Blockchain: Legal and Regulatory Guidance and is a founding member of the global Crypto Fraud and Asset Recovery network.

Marc specialises in high-value commercial, banking and financial services disputes, often involving complex financial products and fraud.

He has advised in a number of matters involving crypto-assets. He obtained the first ex parte freezing order over crypto-assets and successfully recovered £1 million worth of Bitcoin in Robertson v Persons Unknown, the first case in which the High Court accepted Bitcoin is legal property. He has advised clients on various crypto-frauds and failed initial coin offerings; on a $50 million bitcoin commercial loan default; and on crypto-assets in the context of both trusts and divorce.

He is a founding member of CFAAR, a global network for Crypto Fraud and Asset Recovery professionals.
