David Pickstone, head of Stewarts’ tax litigation and resolution team, has acted on several large, high-profile cases – including the Ingenious Media, Eclipse, Scotts Atlantic Distributors and Invicta 43 group actions – and has acted for various well-known HNWs in individual tax disputes.
The solicitor also acts for families, businesses and large corporates. Pickstone’s department is working on cases that have emerged from HMRC’s success in challenging tax avoidance schemes within the courts. ‘A number of our cases have the potential to change the way UK law is applied and are being watched by the market,’ he says. ‘We’re seeing more pressure from HMRC as it grapples to develop an appropriate tax system.’
