Adrian Clossick

Spear’s Review

‘I am a firm believer that being an excellent technical lawyer is simply not enough in the field in which I operate,’ says Leeds-based Adrian Clossick of Stewarts. ‘The real skill is in being able to take that technical expertise and convert it into pragmatic commercial advice that clients can understand.’

Clossick’s career has been spent entirely in the north of England; he trained at Addleshaw Goddard in Leeds before joining Gordons. In 2009 he established the divorce and family law team in Stewarts’ Leeds office, which he now leads. ‘Although my reputation was developed in the northern market, I would hope that my reputation now extends further afield – I am fortunate that many of my cases involve international jurisdictions and, for example, overseas trust assets,’ he explains.

In 2024, Clossick was appointed national head of the firm’s professional practices group, a recognition of his expertise in acting for divorcing HNW couples in the legal, financial services, accountancy and medical sectors.

Adviser Profile

Adrian is a partner at Stewarts and head of the divorce and family team in Leeds, which he co-founded in 2009. He advises national and international clients, often on cases involving trusts, tax issues, family businesses, inherited wealth and asset tracing. He has particular expertise in negotiating pre- and post-nuptial agreements and the treatment of personal injury damages on divorce.

Adrian frequently acts for professionals and City clients, including on complex income structures, incentive plans and carried interest. He also specialises in cohabitation claims. Adrian leads the firm’s divorce and family professional practices group.

Outside work, he enjoys walking in the Yorkshire Dales and visiting the Isle of Skye.
