Spear’s Review

Alex Woolley joined the family team at Farrer & Co in 2019 after spending five years at Winckworth Sherwood. 

He tells Spear’s that after graduating from Cambridge, he felt a strong draw to family law. ‘Practising in high- and ultra-high-net-worth divorce means you are exposed to really challenging legal and highly complex financial issues,’ he explains. ‘Given the statute hasn’t changed since 1973, much of family law is judge-made, which means it is always changing – even if only in nuanced ways. I like the idea that it can change with society.’ 

Woolley is hopeful that technology can help family lawyers serve their clients better, particularly when it comes to financial remedies. He believes that Farrer is best placed to take advantage of new innovations and says that the firm ‘combines excellent technical ability with a genuine human touch, empathy and level of care’.
