Sasha Wiggins

Spear’s Review 

Sasha Wiggins was appointed CEO of private banking and wealth management at Barclays in February 2024, replacing Jean-Christophe Gerard, who managed the integration of the two divisions. 

Since joining Barclays in 2002, Wiggins has held a number of roles within the private bank. In 2015, she was appointed CEO of Barclays Bank Ireland and subsequently became the group chief of staff in 2018. Most recently, Wiggins joined the group executive committee as the group head of public policy and corporate responsibility, accountable for the bank’s overall sustainability agenda and engagement with governments, regulators, the media and key policymakers.

Her promotion is part of a drive by group chief executive CS Venkatakrishnan to revive the bank’s performance following a 25 per cent decline in share price since November 2021. The strategy focuses on five key divisions, including wealth and private banking. Wiggins’ appointment is also viewed as part of a wider trend towards bringing corporate governance and sustainability into the highest levels of leadership. 

Wiggins serves as vice chair of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity’s Corporate Partnerships Board and is a trustee on the Board of Grief Encounter, a national charity supporting bereaved children and young people.
