Private banker Harvey Chapel’s career could have gone in a very different direction. In a former life he was the captain of the England U22 basketball team, and won an academic scholarship to study an MBA while playing college basketball in the US. 

He has since applied the commitment of an athlete to the world of finance, becoming a wealth adviser at AllianceBernstein before joining Barclays. 

Chapel works in the north of England and is proud of his jurisdiction, where there is ‘a fantastic entrepreneurial community, great businesses and, most importantly, some wonderful people’, he says. He has been advising UHNW clients in the region for 14 years, and still feels ‘privileged to have access to the breadth of proposition and very high-quality team at Barclays Private Bank, while also working closely with my colleagues in the corporate and investment bank’.
