Executive director Daniel Edwards, who joined UBS in 2007, says he has built one of the largest client franchises within the bank’s UK operation – almost exclusively through referrals rather than inherited clients. Today his focus sits primarily with entrepreneurs, private equity professionals and corporate executives, though the nature of his practice means that he ‘never knows what is around the corner’.

His approach is built around achieving client outcomes rather than products. ‘At UBS, we customise and inject a thought process. We create a solution that really means something and then invest the time educating the family and making sure they understand the journey they’re going on and why they’re doing it,’ he says. ‘I don’t feel a lot of the market spends time doing that.’

Selected as one of the first 50 bankers globally for UBS’s elite two-year master’s programme, Edwards was the first alumni to graduate in 2016 and sits on the bank’s internal hall of fame.
