Lluis Jauma Costa was inspired to pursue asset management as a career after struggling with his own inheritance as a child. ‘Since I was 10 years old, I have had to learn how to manage my own wealth,’ he says. Combined with growing up during a financial crisis in Mexico, he ‘really needed to know how to deal with these [financial] situations’.

The UBS wealth manager, who oversees CHF 3 billion in AuM, is based in Geneva and covers the Spanish, Portuguese and Andorran markets. Typically, he works with families who are looking to maintain their capital through a series of offshore investments. He has extensive knowledge of Iberian markets, having served as a regional wealth manager for a private bank in Spain, as well as working in Mexico City and London.

Jauma Costa’s two decades in finance have prepared him to work with clients who tend to be entrepreneurial and seek open communication. ‘My first step when I have a new client is to sit with them and see what it is they need,’ he tells Spear’s. ‘Wealth planning is the starting point.’
