James Chilcott
Spear’s Review
Approaching his second decade at Goldman Sachs, James Chilcott plays a leading role in the bank’s UK operations and – in particular – its advisory services to UHNW entrepreneurs and owner-led businesses.
A seasoned investment banker who has long commanded the respect of his peers, Chilcott has previously worked across the bank’s various functions, including fixed income, equities and capital markets.
As for Goldman itself, the bank continues to strengthen its presence in the UK – not just in London (where, in 2019, it took on a new £1 billion European headquarters, complete with the continent’s largest trading floor), but also in Birmingham, where it has established a major regional preference.
The bank’s recent corporate citizenship efforts have focused on providing advice and support to 10,000 UK SMEs.
Adviser Profile
James is a private wealth advisor at Goldman Sachs. He is co-head of one of the teams within the UK business, focusing on business owners and entrepreneurs. He also serves on the Private Wealth Management (PWM) Advisors Council within EMEA.
James joined Goldman Sachs in 2005 as an associate and was named managing director in 2019. Prior to joining the firm, James worked at Arthur D Little as a management consultant and at Mercury Asset Management on the internal strategy team. Following the acquisition of Mercury Asset Management by Merrill Lynch, James worked for Merrill Lynch in London and New York in a strategy role. He served as a director of an Investec Investment trust and, in 2000, was one of the founding directors of Evolution Capital, a specialist mid-cap finance and asset management firm.
James is a trustee of the Richmond National Schools, a charity that supports local schools in the Richmond-upon-Thames area of London. He also is a member of the Finance and Investment Committee of the Army Benevolent Fund, the principal charity for the British Army. James is also a co-presenter of a Cold War podcast.
James earned an BSc in Economics from Cardiff University in 1993, an MPhil from Cambridge University in 1994 and an MBA from London Business School in 2005.
