As head of the EMEA alternative capital markets group at Goldman Sachs, managing director Samuel Guinness connects the firm’s private clients to a wide range of private market opportunities, utilising the global firm’s network of 1,000 investment professionals. 

The majority of  Goldman’s alternative investment solutions are in  private equity, but the platform also offers opportunities in real estate, credit and infrastructure. Guinness works alongside limited partners to diversify their portfolio in alignment with their broader financial goals and multi-generational wealth plans.

‘We work with a range of family office clients as well as individuals,’ he tells Spear’s. Private investments are particularly useful for clients who are ‘comfortable with having some illiquidity in their portfolio’, he notes. ‘One of the reasons for that is that there is potential for greater returns long-term.’
