Spear’s Review

Tim Maxwell joined Wedlake Bell as a partner in 2022. He specialises in contentious art matters including dealer disputes and authenticity concerns. He separately provides strategic advice on transactional issues and is noted for his diplomacy in resolving complex international situations. 

He tells Spear’s that he ‘continues to act on test cases in the art world, including in relation to cultural property, restitution, transparency for victims of the market, street art and artist resale rights’.

Maxwell has long been fascinated by the art world, and began his career working on cases involving misattribution of Old Master paintings and provenance disputes. His practice has since grown to encompass all aspects of the art world, and he has a growing reputation in protecting artists’ rights. Maxwell also has a significant practice in other luxury asset classes – particularly wine.
