Matthew Woodrow

Spear’s Review

Matthew Woodrow joined Investec (now Rathbones following a 2023 merger) in 2011 as a senior investment director. As London’s divisional lead he now supports a mix of wealthy private clients and charities with advice on bespoke portfolio management and retirement planning, and leads a team of wealth managers supporting a private client book exceeding £40 billion in assets.

He tells Spear’s that clients are increasingly looking for reassurance from their wealth managers, especially as globally mobile HNWs navigate unpredictable economic environments. ‘In an era when most people’s financial relationships are unsatisfactory, the trusted adviser role has become incredibly important.'

Woodrow is cautious as to the impact of AI in wealth management. He says: 'AI just introduces more uncertainty into the world, so the hand-holding we do is more important than ever.’
