At Rathbones, Robert (Bob) Szechenyi runs a three-person team that manages portfolios for high-net-worth individuals, charities, personal pension schemes and family trusts, overseeing around £850 million of client assets.

Estate planning is a ‘very large part’ of his work at the firm, and he tells Spear’s it is important to look after ‘today’s acorns that will be the oak trees of the future’. That long-term mindset is not exclusive to clients; Szechenyi himself took over the book of his director. Several of those clients have been with the bank for over 75 years, yet have been served by just three wealth managers at the firm.

Szechenyi, who was shortlisted in the Future Leader in Private Client category at the 2019 Spear’s Awards, is a fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.
