When Spear’s caught up with Simon Jennings following his 2017 move to Evelyn Partners, he described the company as ‘a more appropriate firm for me to work towards retirement’, but the founding member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners shows no sign of slowing down just yet.

Now a senior consultant advising on a wide range of private tax matters, Jennings had been a partner at Rawlinson & Hunter for more than three decades before joining Smith & Williamson, which ultimately became Evelyn Partners. What has he learned over his long career? ‘No two private clients are alike,’ he says. He adds that personality, family circumstances, plans for the future and risk appetite of a given client are all things an adviser needs to consider before tailoring the right advice.
