Jonathan Sorrell

Spear’s Review

Jonathan Sorrell was appointed as Rathbones group CEO in August 2025, making him the newest face of a much-respected institution with a long heritage.

Following a 2023 merger with Investec, Rathbones is now one of the top three largest wealth managers in the UK, with £109 billion in funds under management as of June 2025.

Sorrell began his career at Goldman Sachs, working as a managing director in London and New York. He has also served as president at alternatives specialist Capstone, and as CFO and president of Man Group, a listed asset manager. His diverse experience in leading listed firms will no doubt benefit Rathbones, which has suffered problems with client migration and rising competition in the face of increased regulation.

Outside of his professional practice, Sorrell is the co-founder of the successful 10,000 Interns initiative. Now in its fifth year, the foundation’s aim is to increase diversity in the workplace. More than 1,000 partners support the programme, including Christie’s, HSBC, Blackstone and Morgan Stanley.
