Simon Fitzpatrick

Spear’s Review

Simon Fitzpatrick, who heads up Boodle Hatfield’s art and litigation teams, is celebrated in the legal world for his knowledge of a wide range of art disputes, from provenance claims to negligence to commercial contract disputes, and is on speed dial for premier collectors, galleries and auction houses who require specialist advice

In one of Fitzpatrick’s most high-profile cases, he advised Lancelot Thwaytes, a former owner of a Caravaggio called Cardsharps, who launched a negligence claim against Sotheby’s in 2014. This was a landmark case in art law that brought forward salient points about the duties owed by an auction house to its consigner.

Fitzpatrick’s career started over 30 years ago and has seen him lead the firm’s well-respected art practice for close to two decades. He is also a founding board member of Mayfair Art Weekend.
