Gareth Curtis, who joined Vardags in 2023 from Stowe Family Law, supports a range of HNWs decoupling after long-term or shorter-term marriages, including those ‘where the bulk of the wealth has been generated at the outset of the relationship’. 

The experienced partner tells Spear’s he relishes the contentious aspects of his work. ‘Complicating factors might be trusts, prenuptial agreements, complex renumeration packages, injunctions and things like that. There’s a good range of work, and it’s all quite interesting.’

Clients include wealthy individuals – often with an international aspect – and Curtis explains that a ‘busy’ growth area for the firm is jurisdictional disputes where clients have overseas connections: ‘There might be an issue over whether one can divorce here, or Canada, or Dubai.’
