‘I’ve had the privilege of some quite well-known fundamental pieces of work in my career,’ says David Lister of his storied tenure as a family lawyer.

This includes a ‘seminal case’ on litigation funding that ‘is well known to every law student, and is basically a case which said you can give credits to the financially weaker party and get paid at the end of the day’.

Over more than 30 years, the veteran lawyer has worked for Sears Tooth, Mishcon de Reya and Rayden Solicitors. He joined Vardags as a senior partner in 2023 and, following a period as interim head of London family law, he stepped into the role full time in April 2026. He has also been a long-time member of the International Academy of Family Lawyers and formerly served as governor.
