Spear’s Review

A partner at BDB Pitmans, Judith Millar is a tax practitioner who advises a range of clients with ‘substantial UK and non-UK trust interests’, as well as HNWs who require a tax lawyer’s opinion on domicile and residence issues.

The Cambridge graduate, who is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, tells Spear’s of the need to be mindful of the potential for conflicts of interest when advising beneficiaries and trustees. ‘You’re taking on the role of a trusted adviser, but it’s a pretty delicate one as well,’ she says.

With more than two decades of experience as a private client adviser, Millar has a diverse practice, and is adept at advising on offshore elements, cross-border planning and contentious tax matters, which often involve fragile family relationships.

Adviser Profile

Judith is noted for her advice on complex trust and estate planning and is widely recognised for her client facing skills. Advising individuals, trustees/executors and beneficiaries, her clients include families with substantial UK and non-UK trust interests.

Her advice often focuses on the restructuring of trusts to benefit different generations and on the implications of changes in tax treatment.

She also acts for non-UK domiciled individuals who may be UK resident, or else thinking of coming to or leaving the UK, requiring advice on domicile and residence issues. She is experienced in cross-border succession planning as well as co-ordinating international estates requiring probate in different jurisdictions.
