Former Macfarlanes partner Tristan Ward joined BDB Pitmans (now Broadfield) in 2019 to expand its expertise in regulatory landscapes in the farm and estates sphere. It’s all about the ‘real thing’ for Ward, who until 2017 owned a 700-acre farm in Kent. ‘It is amazing how often the client or adviser has an issue and I can say, “Yes, I have personal experience of that,”’ he says.

As head of Broadfield’s landed estates and agricultural team, Ward advises on a wide range of residential, rural and commercial property matters for HNW and institutional clients. The estates world is ‘fundamentally important’, he explains. ‘You’ve got land, you’ve got politics – not just food, but environment and planning, ownership of housing and of tax.’
