Jonathan Colclough

Spear’s Review

A partner in BDB Pitmans’ private wealth team, Jonathan Colclough advises UK and international clients on UK tax, trusts, estate and succession issues. His practice has a particular focus on cross-border matters for non-UK domiciled clients, offshore trustees and family offices.

Colclough can also assist family business owners with developing succession plans, or strategising around a business sale. According to his firm, Colclough is au fait with helping entrepreneurs at ‘all stages in the life cycle of their business’.

In addition to his private client work, Colclough is on the Law Society’s Tax Law Committee, which works alongside HMRC on policy development. Earlier in his career, Colclough worked as a solicitor at Boodle Hatfield and Maitland before becoming a private wealth partner at New Quadrant Partners. He joined BDB Pitmans at the end of 2020.

Adviser Profile

Jonathan regularly advises individuals moving to or from the UK on how to plan their affairs in a tax-efficient manner before they arrive or depart. Often this will include considering the impact on, and planning for, any business they own or structure they can benefit from.

Jonathan has built up experience on the cross-border tax, legal and compliance issues between South Africa and the UK, and has travelled there often.

He is also accredited with advising on how crypto is taxed and what structures might be relevant for tax and other purposes.

He is a member of STEP and has obtained both the STEP diploma and the STEP advanced certificate in UK tax for international clients and STEP excellence award.
