Joshua Ryan, principal associate and co-head of the French desk at Weightmans, advises international clients with a US or French nexus on a broad range of tax matters. A French speaker, he is uniquely prepared to give bilingual advice and have an understanding of the cultural and legal differences arising in cross-border cases. 

Ryan describes his practice as ‘a wraparound service’, which includes not only tax advice but also planning around relocation and investment strategies. It is this wide focus that has allowed him to advise on topics including powers of attorney, wealth structures such as trusts and foundations, succession planning and business exits. 

Despite his international focus, he sees potential in the UK for (U)HNW private clients. ‘I think we could be a very attractive option if things settle down – there’s opportunities for us.’ 

Ryan is also a qualified wills draftsman in Dubai, and often assists with the preparation of Emirati-compliant wills.
