Spear’s Review

James Morrell will take over as CEO of Rothschild & Co’s UK wealth management business in January 2026, taking over from Helen Watson, who served in the position for 10 years and is now incoming chair at the firm. Morrell first joined Rothschild & Co as a client adviser in 2010 and had been deputy CEO since 2024.

‘I am excited to evolve the business in line with our current strategy as we continue to invest in and further enhance our offering focused on industry-leading client service, strong investment performance, a best-in-class platform and inclusive culture,’ Morrell said upon his appointment.

Morrell believes in long-term relationships; he previously told Spear’s that wealth management, to him, is all about ‘adapting to each generation’s requirements’.

‘There’s no such thing as a typical client, but there are some commonalities. They’re often first- or second-generation wealthy, entrepreneurs, and looking to us to preserve and grow the real value of their wealth.’
