James Morrell was named CEO of Rothschild & Co’s UK wealth management business in October 2025, taking over from Helen Watson, who served in the position for 10 years and is now chair at the firm. Morrell first joined Rothschild & Co as a client adviser in 2010 and had been deputy CEO since 2024.

‘I am excited to evolve the business in line with our current strategy as we continue to invest in and further enhance our offering focused on industry-leading client service, strong investment performance, a best-in-class platform and inclusive culture,’ Morrell said upon his appointment.

Morrell believes in long-term relationships; he previously told Spear’s that wealth management, to him, is all about ‘adapting to each generation’s requirements’.

‘There’s no such thing as a typical client, but there are some commonalities. They’re often first- or second-generation wealthy, entrepreneurs, and looking to us to preserve and grow the real value of their wealth.’

Having joined the firm as a client adviser some 15 years ago, following seven years at Morgan Stanley, his experience advising and building enduring relationships with ultra-high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs and families has gained Morrell a reputation for his ability to navigate complex situations. His leadership style continues to demonstrate a client-first and long-term focus.

Rothschild & Co’s deliberately high adviser-to-client ratio enables deep relationships, tailored solutions and swift responses to intricate scenarios. During Morrell’s seven years as head of the UK wealth management front office, the firm became synonymous with exceptional client service, earning widespread industry recognition, including winning Spear’s inaugural Client Relationship Award.
