A former keeper of ancient coins at Harvard University’s Fogg Museum, London-based Dr Florent Heintz boasts a classical archaeology PhD from Harvard and has written for several academic publications, including the Journal of Roman Archaeology.
Heintz, who has intimate knowledge of a wide selection of Egyptian, Classical and Near Eastern pieces, including fine sculptures and reliefs, bronzes, terracottas, textiles and jewellery, joined Sotheby’s antiquities department in 2001. Now, he sits as global head of department for ancient sculpture and works of art.
The team’s sales include that of a marble figure of Aphrodite, formerly in the collection of the Duke of Hamilton, for £18.6 million in 2021, and an Egyptian limestone figure from the 5th Dynasty for $9.9 million in 2022.
