Spear’s Review

As an organ scholar at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, George Lacey had access to the college’s well-stocked cellars, where he first developed his passion for savouring vintage wines (he was also an active participant in the university’s Blind Wine Tasting Society).

Fast forward two decades, and Lacey is based in Hong Kong, leading Sotheby’s wine department in Asia. He first joined the auction house in 2021 to head its UK sales efforts at its home on New Bond Street. Prior to that, Lacey worked closely with hundreds of HNW wine enthusiasts to grow their wine portfolios as an account manager at Fine + Rare Wines and at Berry Bros. & Rudd

He tells Spear’s that there has never been a better time to buy, because ‘there’s never been more great wine being made in the world’, but ‘because there’s more great wine than ever, that’s where the real value of expert advice comes in’.
