She manages investment portfolios for large UK and international private families and charities. While ‘no two clients are the same’, most of her clients are looking to preserve wealth as well as growing it in real terms, she said. 

Leppard is head of client service for Cazenove’s UK wealth management business and is intimately connected with her clients’ lives and financial legacies. She said: ‘We get to know clients well, learn what keeps them awake at night and what inspires them during the day.’

Every client is assigned a team, chosen by Leppard, to suit their requirements and personalities. ‘My role is [to be] the senior member of every one of those teams,’ she said.

She is renowned for her exacting levels of client service and advice, while ensuring that client service levels are raised across the wider business. Kate gains great fulfilment from mentoring the next generation of client advisers.

She typically works with complex clients that have exacting tax requirements, such as non-domiciled UK residents and those who have dual US and UK reporting requirements. Kate’s clients have multiple wealth structures, are often multi-generation and have multi-currency outcomes.

Over the last few years, Kate has increasingly specialised in helping clients determine their sustainable and impact investment preferences and advises on appropriate portfolios. Working with her team, she also works with families to engage the next generation and understand potential differing needs and outlooks. She supports clients in financial giving and works with those looking to gain a deeper understanding of the responsibilities of wealth. Very often this involves creating a family charity, where families can discuss what is important to them.

More recently, Kate has been able to extend the work she does for her ultra-high-net-worth clients by drawing on the expertise of Schroders Global Family Office Service team as well as working with her colleagues in the Channel Islands, Switzerland and Singapore.

Outside of work, Kate enjoys spending time with her family in Cornwall. She truly deserves the recognition she has received from her colleagues, peers and Spear’s. Clients are at the heart of all she does — her clients always come first.
