Henri Etchegoyen is a director at HSBC Private Bank, specialising in investment and lending solutions for HNW individuals – typically hedge fund managers, private equity partners and financial professionals who arrive with a sophisticated grasp of markets and high expectations of the people managing their wealth. ‘I take great interest in markets and investing,’ he tells Spear’s. 

The former Credit Suisse private banker is unambiguous about what draws him to HSBC: the platform. The bank offers, in his view, one of the most comprehensive wealth planning propositions of any UK private bank – which translates directly into wider investment access for clients.

But for all the institutional firepower, his practice is built on something more personal. Etchegoyen places ‘openness’ and ‘transparency’ at the centre of how he works, and the results bear that out. ‘Almost all of my clients have been built upon existing client referrals,’ he says.
