He believes that the much-coveted position of a trusted adviser is a ‘privilege and a responsibility, hard won and easily lost’. When that trust suffers damage, whether by unpredicted market forces or by factors beyond one’s control, that is the time to dig deep and stay the course, he says. 

The son of two doctors, Holdstock originally studied medicine – something he credits with giving him a nuanced view of his work. Prior to his role at Pictet, he spent six years at Barclays Private Bank & Wealth Management, where he was a vice president based in their Geneva office.
