Richard Todd KC

Spear’s Review

Richard Todd KC of 1 Hare Court is a highly regarded family law silk whose practice focuses on complex international financial disputes, particularly those involving trusts, offshore structures and dynastic wealth

His caseload frequently involves internationally mobile families with assets spanning multiple jurisdictions. Among his notable matters is the Coppinger-Symes case, concerning alleged trust gifts and involving litigation in England, Singapore and Australia.

Todd identifies two major trends shaping the market. The first is an increase in offshore litigation; the second is the growing influence of artificial intelligence, which he believes has created new challenges as ‘people come at you with material that they’ve gleaned from AI’.

Clients turn to Todd for advice on trust structures, tax planning, non-disclosure issues and the cross-border enforcement of financial orders. A long list of recorded cases includes the Supreme Court cases of Radmacher v Granatino [2010] and Petrodel Resources Ltd et al v Prest [2013].

Called to the Bar in England and Wales as well as Hong Kong, Todd has also been called in the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas and the British Virgin Islands.
