‘I generally advise City types – lots of lawyers, lots of entrepreneurs. We get lots of referrals from the corporate team,’ Mariko Wilson, a director at Family Law in Partnership, tells Spear’s.

Wilson, whose typical client might be a major shareholder going through a divorce, specialises in all matters arising from marital breakdown. ‘You have to do the full range, because you have to be prepared for whatever a client’s problems might be, including children problems,’ she says. ‘It’s about assessing each family on its own particular set of circumstances – the relationship, what people want to achieve and how they want to do things. Sometimes I ask people: “What would their – in inverted commas – dream divorce look like?”’

Wilson is also interested in the tax and pensions side of things, and is a qualified mediator and collaborative lawyer.
