Pirrie is a solicitor, arbitrator, mediator and collaborative lawyer specialising in separation and divorce, which includes handling financial and children claims. 

Widely recognised for his advocacy of alternative dispute resolution, Pirrie qualified as a mediator in 1989, was among the first family lawyers to train as a family arbitrator in financial and children issues, and helped to pioneer private financial dispute resolution.
