Ticehurst has a background in trusts, wills and tax planning, but his bread and butter has always been litigation and dispute resolution. The two disciplines inform each other: as an adviser, he can foresee how a trust or estate may be attacked; as a litigator, he understands why trusts are established and how they work.

He believes the most effective litigators are able to coax the other side into calm discussion and reach compromise. ‘Aggressive lawyers – rottweilers – achieve one thing: a prolonged, bitter negotiation,’ he says.
