Luke Powell took on the mantle of managing partner at Macfarlanes in 2022. Unusually for the managing partner of a major firm, he remains committed to earning fees and leading client relationships while also heading up the firm, and Macfarlanes has taken on a chief operating officer, Katherine Milliken, to work in a focused way on business services.

Powell joined Macfarlanes in 2004, was named partner in 2007 and became co-head of M&A in 2018, advising on all aspects of M&A transactions, with a particular focus on financial services, asset management and private equity – buyouts and secondaries.

The combination of managing partner and COO, the firm says, reflects the flexible nature of the firm and its willingness to adapt to different, successful ways of working.
