Piers Barclay is head of Macfarlanes’ private client practice, a position he has held since 2017. He specialises in providing succession, tax and estate planning advice for HNW individuals, their families and their family offices. 

Much of his work has an international element, which can include structuring multi-jurisdictional estates and advising non-UK trustees on tax and fiduciary matters. 

He has particular expertise in tax planning for non-domiciled clients, providing remittance basis advice and using trusts in both civil law and sharia law countries. 

Barclay is also involved in the post-death administration of estates in the UK and abroad and is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
