ESTABLISHED IN APRIL 2016, Hall Brown is one of the youngest specialist firms to feature on the Spear’s 500 but it has grown dramatically, attracting only the most capable lawyers from much larger competitors along with an ever-larger number of HNW clients, as well as increasing its physical footprint.

It was founded by managing partner James Brown and senior partner Sam Hall with the intention of providing clients with the standards of service and legal expertise normally associated with the leading London brands.

Over the last four years, Hall Brown has developed a truly international caseload, comprised in part of divorces featuring intricate business structures, investments and trusts, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, civil partnerships, cohabitation and complex children’s law matters, many of which extend across different territories.

More than the breadth of its cases or the reputation of its lawyers as among the most insightful legal commentators, Hall Brown has quickly cemented itself among Britain’s very best law firms for the quality of its work, ranked in the top tier of family practices. Legal 500 deemed Hall Brown ‘an excellent boutique firm’, singling out several of its partners for particular praise, while Chambers and Partners described it as an ‘exceptional... very exciting and energetic practice’, noting its ‘major impact on the family law market’.

The firm has also been named among Britain’s 200 best law firms by The Times three years in succession.

Hall Brown’s careful recruitment policy has seen its ranks grow to 43 staff, 31 of whom are fee earners.

Its headquarters are in one of Manchester’s most prestigious commercial addresses (the Grade II-listed Ship Canal House), but the firm has also made its mark in London from its offices at Lincoln’s Inn Fields – which are headed by partner Izzy Walsh – and newer premises in Sheffield headed by partner Alison Fernandes.

Hall Brown’s talents have also been recognised with a string of awards, most notably being named Family Law Firm of the Year - North at the Family Law Awards.
