Paul Nixon set up what is now LGT Wealth Management’s US division in 2010 and currently serves as CEO of this growing arm of the firm.

Nixon and his team advise US-connected clients – including successful business owners and families living in the UK or US – who are looking to establish offshore structures, understand their UK/US tax obligations or diversify their investments. He tells Spear’s that LGT has ‘boots on the ground’ in both the UK and the US, meaning it has ‘global expertise’ and the ability to ‘execute in a locally compliant manner’, adding that the US division is SEC licensed in the US and FCA registered in the UK.

When working with his clients, Nixon emphasises the importance of not overcomplicating things and taking away their ‘headaches’. While all clients are different, he adds, ‘the patterns we see are the same’, and he and his team are well equipped to handle any situation.

Adviser Profile

Paul established LGT Wealth Management’s US division in 2010, securing the SEC license three years later to serve US domestic clients. The business was created to help international US-connected ultra-high-net-worth clients and their families navigate the complexity of cross-border banking and investment following the introduction of FATCA. More recently, the firm has seen a significant increase in demand from US domestic clients seeking both jurisdictional and currency diversification during geopolitical instability.

Now CEO, Paul brings a genuinely personal perspective to his work, having lived in multiple jurisdictions including the US and Jersey. He works closely with international advisers to help families manage the realities of multi-jurisdictional wealth, combining technical expertise with a practical understanding of what clients face day to day. The business continues to grow, with referrals coming predominantly through word of mouth as well as through lawyers and accountants, reflecting the quality of service and trust built with clients and their advisers on both sides of the Atlantic.

Paul specialises in supporting entrepreneurial clients with diverse financial interests navigate the complexities of cross-border wealth planning, drawing on deep jurisdictional expertise to support their financial goals within the constraints of the US tax system. He emphasises that leaving the US physically does not remove exposure to the US reporting regime, and that wealth planning must consider both the client’s country of residence and the US system overall to best meet clients’ needs both now and in the future. This long-term mindset aligns closely with LGT’s own heritage as a family-owned business, allowing Paul and his team to focus on lasting relationships and generational planning rather than short-term pressures.
