Adam Brownlee, an executive director in Coutts’ family office, is one of the UHNW world’s most experienced advisers, having had stints at LGT, HSBC and Credit Suisse in his more than 20-year career.

‘With the advent of technology and the ability for clients to access huge amounts of information much more easily, perhaps without the need for a face-to-face personal interaction, I think we have to demonstrate the specialist knowledge that either I or colleagues bring into the family office team,’ Brownlee said. ‘Clients are increasingly looking for that more now, looking for where we add value rather than trotting out the same old things.’

He takes the job of maintaining intergenerational wealth seriously. ‘They want education for the next generation, to help their second and third generation understand the kind of conversations we’re having with their parents.’
