‘It’s not a normal nine-to-five job; I’m a travelling guru,’ Anne-Marie Hamer told Spear’s. Based in London, the family lawyer at Spencer West is frequently called to instruct on cases across Dorset, Gloucester, Bristol and Exeter. 

She focuses on cases related to surrogacy and financial remedies but began the early part of her career working on freezing injunctions. ‘I was in the deep end from day one,’ she said. Clients include HNWs, high-profile sportspeople and celebrities. 

Hamer revealed that the landscape of family law is evolving; in her own line of work she has seen a downturn in financial remedy cases and an increase in prenuptial agreements: ‘The number of prenups that cross our desk is higher now than it has been in the last 10 years.’ 

As more young people prefer to have a prenuptial agreement in place prior to getting married, Hamer has one piece of advice: Keep your prenup rigid and not too generous, but prepare for flexibility.
